Geography
Geography is the study of human activites in space as history is to the
study of human activities in time. The traditional themes are:
- Relationship of human activites to the land or natural environment;
- Character of region and space;
- Interactions of locations and networks;
- Mapping.
People and societies have changed the landscape and natural environment.
Landscape, therefore, reflects both nature and mankind. Geography
requires the sythesis of information from the natural and humanities
sciences. The key concepts are:
- process;
- transformation
- landscape and;
- spatial distribution.
The traditional theme of relationship between man and land becomes the
modern theme of man and environment. Modern geography is the study of how
mankind changes perception of resources and technology and their
modification of land, atmosphere, biosphere and hydroshpere over the
entire globe. The Geography Information System(GIS) which allows
the delineation and comparison of any spatial data at any scale becomes
the major base for planning and analysis in recent years.(Eblen and Eblen, 1994, p. 294)
