Life Cycle Analysis

A life cycle analysis is a "cradle-to-grave" analysis of a particular product or material. A life cycle analysis of a product considers both the direct and indirect effects of its manufacture, use, and disposal. These effects occur at every stage of the "life cycle" of the product, from the extraction of raw materials from the ground, through the various processing, manufacturing, fabrication, and transportation steps, and to consumption, disposal, or recovery for recycling.(Eblen and Eblen, 1994, p. 424)
