A model is: a generalized, hypothetical description used in analyzing or explaining something; a simplified representation of a system intended to enhance our ability to understand, predict, and control the behavior of the system; a construct by which social or physical situations, real or hypothetical, can be represented; a description or analogy used to help visualize something that cannot be directly observed. Models should promote understanding of the phenomenon being modeled.
The Bohr model is often used to understand the components of the atom.
