Update on regional haze planning activities in the Northeast (OTC / MARAMA / NESCAUM) presented to IMPROVE Steering Committee meeting, 4/4/01, Davis, CA.
This Slide Show (presented at a 6/4/99 public outreach meeting in Portland, ME) summarizes the 1st year plans and progress of several Acid Rain Workgroups which are working on implementation of the 6/98 Acid Rain Action Plan of the New England Governors/Eastern Canadian Premiers Conference. Workgroups include: Forest Productivity Mapping, Water Quality Monitoring, Fine Particle Monitoring and Transbounadry Data Exchange.
This summarizes recent discussions on data formats by members of the NEG/ECP Acid Rain Workgroups. It is focused on the NAtChem wet deposition data, and includes links to recommended GIS software, map layers, and some example NAtChem deposition data products for evaluation and feedback from interested data users.
This summary of the ozone mapping system (OMS), provided by Lee Alter, is provided for the NEG/ECP Acid Rain 'Data Exchange' workgroup, which is considering the possibility of extending the OMS system into the Eastern Canadian Provinces. It includes some Sample Canadian / US Ozone Animations, that provide a view of how the real-time ozone map products might look if extended across the border.

The June 1998 NEG/ECP Acid Rain Action Plan seeks to achieve additional reductions of sulfur and nitrogen emissions to protect sensitive ecosystems in the New England/Eastern Canada region. The plan also calls for a number of technical assessments to evaluate curent and projected future effects of these pollutants on “ecosystem sensitivity” in the region. The following is a proposed working definition of the term “ecosystem sensitivity” as applied toward implementation of the Acid Rain Action Plan. Comments are welcome.
Draft discussion document on anticipated needs for merged US/Canadian wet deposition chemistry data. The "Data Exchange" workgroup for the 1998 New England/Eastern Canada "Acid Rain Action Plan", anticipates requesting these kinds of merged deposition data from Environment Canada's NAtChem Database and Analysis System. Any comments would be appreciated.
Proposal for collaborative analysis of an unusual pollution stagnation event which affected a large area of Eastern Canada and Northeastern US during February 9-13, 1998.
A preliminary agenda for MARAMA's January 12-13 workshop is posted. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Discussions will focus on air quality data analysis and preparation for regional modeling in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The 1998 Acid Rain Action Plan of the New England Governors/ Eastern Canadian Premiers includes action items calling for Coordinated Fine Particle Monitoring and Coordinated Data Collection/Management in the New England/Eastern Canada Region. Here are some ideas.
On 7/22/98 NOAA ARL staff provided an excellent "hands-on" training session for the NESCAUM States in the use of the READY website (Real-time Environmental Applications and Display sYstem) The content of this training session is now available as a READY Site Tour.
NOAA Air Resources Laboratory is providing a training workshop for NESCAUM States on air quality applications of the NOAA Real-time Environmental Applications and Display sYstem (READY) website.
A Regional Mercury Conference is scheduled for September 21, 22 & 23, 1998 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Objectives: To share information and form linkages on mercury ecosystem science, human health science, and policy & pollution reduction initiatives within in the Northeast States and Eastern Canadian Provinces; and to provide a forum to discuss environmental science & health findings with researchers, decision makers, stakeholders and the public. Sponsored by: EMAN, NESCAUM, CCME, CEC, Environment Canada and Health Canada.
A variety of international organizations are currently working on transboundary air quality issues in the Northeastern US and Eastern Canada region. This page provides access to information about, and data analysis results from, some of these international groups.
This is a Status Report on a project to develop an "air mass history pollution climatology" for 9 rural, "forest" air monitoring sites in the Northeast (US and Eastern Canada). The work is being conducted by VT DEC, CAPITA, VMC, and NESCAUM, with funding support from the USDA Forest Service.
The Conn. DEP is embarking on a year-long survey to investigate both the mass and chemistry of fine particulate matter in urbanized areas of the State.
