Workshop - Air Quality Community Modeling System Attributes and Implementaton: There is a proposed workshop to discuss whether a community modeling system, such as EPA's Models-3, will improve the process of examining and designing strategies for the mitigation and prevention of air quality problems. The workshop will discuss two views of a community system: 1) the required scientific and management attributes of a modular, component modeling system, and 2) the criteria underwhich the community would adopt, implement, and utilize such a system. Specific topics to be addressed during the day (please think about these in advance):

1. Can air quality analysis results inform the plan for subregional modeling analyses? Are there specific regions or subregions which should be focused on during these simulations? Can air quality analysis results be used to interpret and extrapolate (to non-episode periods) the results of such simulations?

2. What specific changes need to be made to the draft "Joint Assessment on Transport" paper to make it acceptable to both groups?

3. What specific statements can we make about uncertainties in our analyses that will inform policy-makers without overwhelming them? Should we instead focus on the strengths of our analyses (or at least compare strengths and weaknesses)?

4. Should we include any graphics in our executive summary piece? If so, how many, and which graphics are the most pertinent and informative to policy-makers?

5. What analyses does the AQAWG feel need to continue as we enter the next phase of OTAG? 6. What measurement efforts need to occur to make air quality analyses most informative as OTAG moves forward?

Workgroup conference call on August 7: I would like to schedule an Air Quality Analysis Workgroup conference call on August 7 at 3pm Eastern time. The agenda will be devoted to 1) debrief from July meeting, 2) upcoming meeting on visualizations, and 3) plans for upcoming Aug OTAG meeting. In addition, I would like the following statement sent to the WG with the meeting announcement: In order to facilitate the development of a recommendation report from the AQAWG by the end of September, we are putting together brief summaries of all analyses performed by and for our workgroup. We will be using these summaries over the course of our next 2 meetings to help finalize recommendations. In order for us to develop the summaries, we need all written reports on these pertinent analyses ASAP. In particular, I would like to have reports on individual work products either in-hand or on the Website by August 16. I realize that this may be a very short turnaround time for some of you who are just now finalizing analyses, but we must have something in writing soon in order to meet the OTAG deadlines. Please see that all such analyses (even if they are somewhat drafty) get loaded into the Website by this date. If you need assistance in this regard, contact myself or Bob Collom by phone or E-mail.
