Having unique architectural and natural heritage, Solta is considered one of the most resourcefoul islands for the development of tourism and agriculture with an ephasis on ecological presevation of island's environment. Accordingly, a team of professionals has designed an infrastructure development plan for the island of Solta with two major objectives: to improve the life standard of the island's inhabitants and to preserve and protect the island's environment and 206 archeological localities. The demographical breakdown of the island's population has been going through a negative selection. The number of elderly population has increased while the birth-rate is very low. The plan should ensure island's population growth by 2,100 inhabitants till 2013. It is also expected for the number of so called seasonal inhabitants, "weekenders and tourists" to grow. Also, the plan is designed so that it ensures the development of two major industrial branches: tourism in Livka, Maslinica and few areas in the northern parts of the island; and agriculture centrally located. Eight villages will be urbanized with the center being the village of Grohote. There will be three focal geographical development centers: 1. the central (Grohote with the surrounding area) 2. Eastern (Stomorska, Livka and the surrounding area) 3. Western ( Maslinica and the surrounding area) Running water will be brought from the main land through water supply system of the neighbouring island of Brac. Drainage network will be develop for each settlement individually. Digital telecommunication system has been provided from the mainland through the cabeles installed under the sea.
