What is ozone?

Ozone is a gas that forms in the atmosphere when three atoms of oxygen are combined. The chemical symbol for ozone is (O3). Tropospheric ozone (ozone near the earth’s surface) is formed by a chemical reaction between oxides of nitrogen (NOx), and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the presence of sunlight. As part of the air we breathe, ozone is odorless and colorless.
