Filter
The term filter, as used in Arthur Koestler's "The Ghost in the Machine,"
can be defined as a process used to analyze, condense, and abstract sensory messages. Complex messages are transformed by the filter into more general, meaningful messages for the h
olons in the level above it. The information on the lowest level is
stripped of irrelevant detail, condensed, filtered, and moves upward in
the hierarchical system, through the system of branches.
